Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore "Elephant" 26470ST.OO.A104CR.01

Sale price$21,997.00

Classic 42 Millimeter Offshore Character in One of Its Most Versatile Configurations

The Royal Oak Offshore "Elephant" takes the unmistakable presence of the classic 42 millimeter Offshore and gives it one of the collection's most wearable color combinations. Its slate grey Méga Tapisserie dial, contrasting black chronograph counters, stainless steel case, and black rubber strap create a restrained monochromatic look while preserving the muscular architecture that made this generation of Offshore such an important part of Audemars Piguet's modern history.

This 2018 example presents in very good overall condition with relatively little visible wear and is paired with an AP black rubber strap and stainless steel pin buckle. It is accompanied by its inner and outer boxes, warranty book, chronograph book, care booklet, and quick start guide.

Why We Like It

The Royal Oak Offshore has always represented the more aggressive side of Audemars Piguet. When it debuted in the 1990s, its oversized case, exposed gasket, muscular chronograph layout, and exaggerated interpretation of the Royal Oak challenged contemporary ideas of what a high-end sports watch should look like. What initially seemed enormous ultimately helped establish the blueprint for an entire era of modern luxury sports watches.

For many collectors, the 42 millimeter Offshore remains the purest expression of that original idea. It has the thickness, exposed hardware, Méga Tapisserie dial, and unmistakable wrist presence that gave the Offshore its identity, without moving into some of the larger proportions and more elaborate architecture that would later appear throughout the collection.

The "Elephant" demonstrates just how versatile that formula can be. Its nickname comes naturally from the predominantly grey palette, with the slate Méga Tapisserie dial and stainless steel case contrasted by black chronograph counters, ceramic pushers and crown, and a black rubber strap. It retains the presence expected of an Offshore while feeling noticeably more restrained than many of the collection's brighter configurations.

Inside is Audemars Piguet's Caliber 3126/3840 automatic chronograph, built around the manufacture's respected Caliber 3120 architecture and offering approximately 50 hours of power reserve. It represents an important generation of AP watchmaking before the Offshore transitioned to the newer generation of integrated chronograph movements.

That's ultimately what makes the Elephant so appealing: classic Offshore character in a configuration that's surprisingly easy to live with. For the collector who appreciates the era when the 42 millimeter Offshore was one of the defining luxury sports watches on the market—or simply prefers the proportions and personality of that generation—the Elephant captures it exceptionally well.
