Source This WatchVintage Tudor Proportions Without the Vintage Compromises
The Black Bay 54 takes Tudor's vintage-inspired dive watch formula back to its starting point. Rather than simply shrinking another Black Bay, Tudor looked to reference 7922, its first dive watch from 1954, and recreated much of its compact, stripped-back character in a modern 37 millimeter package.
The result is one of the cleanest watches in the current Black Bay family. You still get a modern manufacture movement, 200 meters of water resistance, approximately 70 hours of power reserve, and Tudor's excellent T-fit clasp, but in a case that feels noticeably slimmer and less imposing than the typical modern dive watch.
This August 2026 example presents in good overall condition with only a few tiny marks on the non-crown side of the case. It includes its inner and outer boxes, warranty card, booklets, and stainless steel bracelet, along with substantial remaining Tudor factory warranty.

Why We Like It
The Black Bay 54 makes considerably more sense once you understand where the name comes from. In 1954, Tudor introduced reference 7922, its first purpose-built dive watch. Nearly seven decades later, the BB54 returned to that starting point rather than simply borrowing the general aesthetic of a vintage Tudor diver.
The 37 millimeter case is the most obvious connection, but some of the smaller decisions are equally important. The bezel is cleaner and more restrained than those found on many contemporary dive watches, while the overall design has been simplified to capture more of the character of Tudor's earliest divers.
What Tudor didn't recreate are the compromises of owning a vintage watch.
Inside is the automatic Manufacture Caliber MT5400 with approximately 70 hours of power reserve, while the case offers 200 meters of water resistance. The bracelet is equipped with Tudor's T-fit rapid-adjustment clasp, allowing its fit to be fine-tuned without tools. Those are meaningful modern conveniences for a watch intended to be worn regularly rather than treated as a historical artifact.
And that 37 millimeter case really is the point. After years of dive watches becoming larger, thicker, and increasingly technical, the BB54 moves deliberately in the opposite direction. It is compact, simple, and comfortable while retaining the capability expected from a contemporary Tudor.
For the enthusiast who loves vintage proportions but doesn't necessarily want the compromises associated with an actual vintage diver, the Black Bay 54 hits a particularly appealing middle ground: the size and simplicity of early Tudor with modern water resistance, movement technology, bracelet construction, and factory support.
It's Tudor looking backward without requiring the owner to live in the past.
